Junior Members

Paddling offers a low-impact, full-body workout promoting cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility. Our junior members begin on closed waterways where they learn how to balance in a kayak, the correct sitting position, paddle stroke and how to empty a kayak after capsizing. Once the basics are out of the way, we focus on both sprint and endurance training. For those wishing to participate, we also travel to and compete at Paddle Australia Sprint and Marathon events held throughout the calendar year. Our committed junior members have achieved success at state, national and international level!

MAKAI members include local business owners, medical practitioners, school teachers and students with a wide range of paddling abilities but a common love of being on the water. Regular group sessions on either the ocean or Burrill Lake are a great way to stay fit and connected socially. Some of us travel the country and beyond to compete, others are just as happy to paddle locally. MAKAI members are also a great volunteer network who assist at our award winning paddling events.
